Peeps Of Punjab

21 May 2017 •

Someone left the door to a surreal Fairy Tale land open! Yes, that’s the thought that beckons as we enter Bohemian Homes, nestled or should we say hidden cosily in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, hardly 50 km from the Chandigarh airport. Everything about this place is refreshing and oozes aesthetics from the word go! A charismatic old world charm yet contemporary in every fashion! Conceptualised, started and run by the talented duo Loren and Puneet, both interior designers by profession, this place is not the shop next door kinds and that gives them the edge. It all started in 2009, when Loren restyled their own home sans any professional help. “I followed my heart and even after seven years, everything seems new and in vogue”, she tells us with pride. After 3 years of working solo from home, her husband Puneet joined her this June, which is when Bohemian homes was born! Here, they sell concepts for interior spaces be it homes, offices, hotels or boutiques. The highly impressive product range boasts of wing chairs, chesterfields, sectional sofas, consoles, service trolleys, customized doors, exquisite lights, big pedestal handmade clocks and photo placements. Of late, they have also started making wooden platforms for food photography, soon spreading to fulfill requirement of home chefs and bakers too.

"LIVE" A DREAM!

Even though each of the finished products has a global and eclectic feel to it, the baseline story is our deep rooted Indian culture, and the ethos “make in India”. None of the furniture or wooden artifacts are outsourced or imported. Each and everything is bought in India, made by Indian artisans and sold almost at market price. The idea behind the place is simple – we all travel, see varied lifestyles and invariably want to incorporate it here in India, but for the lack of procurement. What this couple does is create or source these very nuances and get these myriad definitions under one roof. So, now your home can reflect what a Victorian, Parisian, or a Spanish home would look like, but with the proud “made in India” tag. “Our creativity and expertise lies in the blend we create between universal trends and the Indian pedigree”, shares Loren. In line with supporting this idea of Indian fusion, for interiors projects, they buy accessories from Fab India, Oma, Pure, and what they can’t find, they customize. And believe us when we say, some MAGIC they customize. Having executed various projects for clients in Ludhiana, Mohali, Panchkula, Delhi, Mumbai, the couple’s creativity, consistency and credibility is what all their clients vouch for. Their USP, besides the fusion, that is, is placement
“Using natural things in unbelievable places. One needn’t change big furniture or invest in new furniture to spice up and dramatize the look of a space. Add colour and flavour through linen, upholstery, accessories and lights, and with this interplay, even a drab room can liven up with vibrancy yet sophistication” , shares Puneet. Aesthetics sure runs in their veins and we learn that the kids are involved in handling an aspect of the venture too. While the doodle artist in their daughter words poems and artistic quotes on the chalkboard pillars, their son adds his touch by putting up superhero badges on the burlap. These special touches further uplift the mood of the space. All in all, a visit to this place is worth the while and the pocket too! You can “live” a dream, quite literally, with their expert assistance.

How about gifting someone a piece of a Fairtytale?! Undoubtedly Punjab's original creative space, Bohemian Homes is a veritable treasure trove for some very fine and whimsical stuff. This place is a must-visit if you're looking for home décor with that extra edge. From something as exquisite as their mirrors and lighting concepts to eclectic items like cushions in pop up hues, Bohemian Homes finds its design inspiration from different cultures and eras to bring to the fore something truly exclusive. They've got an array of items like Jaali Panels, Cage Light Chandeliers, Vintage Table Clocks, Vintage Frames, Ceramic Jewelery Boxes etc. waiting to be picked to adorn homes of your family and friends this Diwali.

As this decade comes to a close, I can say this year has had its ups and downs but I am grateful to end the year in good health. I’ve always been a huge fan of fashion and design so I was most excited to learn that a collection I helped design for a friend had been picked up by a major retailer. Starting a new job 2 weeks after I moved into a new place was challenging but everyone was so supportive and helpful that it made the transition a lot easier. I am excited to see what 2020 brings!
